Euan Anckorn
Ward Member for Furley
It has been an honour to serve Furley Ward, having lived in the ward since I was 5 years old, and I would like to share some of what I’ve been doing as your local Councillor. At the May 2019 elections I promised you that I would fight to ensure new developments have suitable infrastructure, promote a common-sense approach to town centre parking and campaign for more local GPs. Since being elected I have:
- Voted against Large Burton because of the impact on traffic along Canterbury Road and voted against the East Stour Park development to protect Ashford’s Green Corridor.
- Opposed developments with insufficient parking that would impact nearby streets and worked as part of the Council’s Climate Advisory Committee to produce recommendations to encourage walking, cycling and use of public transport in order to reduce traffic and carbon emissions.
- Written to Ashford’s MP to highlight GP shortages and long waiting times for appointments and supported a motion for a larger share of developer contributions from the Ashford film studios development to go towards local NHS services.
Having been re-elected I will prioritise the following:
- Fighting for suitable infrastructure for all new developments.
- Protecting Ashford’s green spaces, including the green on Quantock Drive and the Ashford Green Corridor.
- Campaigning for more local GPs and greater public health services in order to reduce waiting times.
